City of Santa Monica collection programme

Santa Monica HHW Door-to-Door Collection

Santa Monica has no public HHW drop-off center — the city collects household hazardous waste from residents' homes by appointment instead.

Area

Santa Monica. We do not publish a street address here because it was not verified for this guide — get the exact address from the official listing linked below.

How it works

Year-round, by appointment — schedule online or by phone through the city's page. Free; Santa Monica residents only. The city's contractor (CleanEarth, now Veolia) collects HHW including paint, cleaners, cooking oil and medications — and electronics.

Do not go to City Yards for HHW

The city's old City Yards HHW center is closed to the public — it was replaced by this door-to-door programme, so it is not listed here as a drop-off center. (A one-day, e-waste-only city event is still held at City Yards — Saturday, November 7, 2026, 9am–2pm — see our Santa Monica city guide.)

Also in Santa Monica

The city runs quarterly e-waste recycling events and household-battery drop-off sites citywide — dates and sites are on the city's page linked below.

Not covered here

Business waste is not part of this residential programme — the city runs a separate small-business (CESQG) drop-off by appointment. Solar panels are not accepted at county HHW events or permanent centers.

Transport limit

The LA County HHW programme's transport limit is 15 gallons or 125 lbs per trip (LA County DPW programme guidance). Pack items upright, keep them in their original containers where possible, and never mix chemicals. Acceptance and limits vary by centre — confirm before you go.

Before you go

Wipe personal data first: wipe a laptop, wipe a phone, handle old hard drives.
