Paint and motor oil from a home are household hazardous waste. They are accepted at LA County HHW / e-waste events and at permanent centers — and they never go in curbside trash, a drain, or the ground.

Where to take them

• County one-day events — see the event list for Carson, Covina, Glendale, Malibu and other rotating cities.
• S.A.F.E. Centers and county permanent centers — check hours and exceptions per center.

Transport rules that apply

• Limit: 15 gallons or 125 lbs per trip.
• Keep paint and oil upright, sealed, and separate — never mix paint, oil or chemicals together.
• Keep containers labelled where possible so staff can identify the contents.
