Batteries & bulbs
Household batteries and bulbs are household hazardous waste. They are accepted at LA County HHW events and permanent centers — and never belong in curbside trash or a curbside bin.
Batteries
- Tape loose terminals or bag batteries individually before transport.
- Keep damaged or swollen batteries separate and ask the programme how to present them.
- Transport within the 15-gallon / 125-lb per-trip limit.

Bulbs
Household bulbs handled as HHW go to the same centers and events — pack them so they cannot break in transit, keep them separate from liquids, and confirm the bulb types a location takes on the official page before you go.
Battery-embedded products
California SB 1215 expands covered e-waste to battery-embedded products from January 1, 2026. A device with a built-in battery is recycled as e-waste at a S.A.F.E. Center or county event — it still never goes in curbside trash.
